ABOUT THE EP

UNDERCOVERED (EP)— Tape Lab

Released: August 9, 2020
Runtime: (5 Songs, 14 Minutes)

Undercovered is a weird, charming four-track Tape Lab covers EP that pulls from a very specific corner of pop, R&B, radio nostalgia, and internet-era memory. Covering Feeling Like This and Gotta Be Tuff by Midnight Star, Email My Heart by Britney Spears, and “Reggie Bush” by Brisco, the release feels like a crate-digging experiment where the references are somehow both deeply familiar and completely unexpected.

The result is classic Tape Lab: a little funny, a little sentimental, and fully committed to the bit. Undercovered does not treat covers like polished tribute material. Instead, it reworks them through Tape Lab’s loose, DIY, outsider-music lens — turning funk, pop balladry, Southern rap energy, and 80s electro-R&B into something stranger, scrappier, and more personal. It is a covers EP about taste, memory, and the joy of choosing songs that probably should not belong together, then making them work anyway.
