ABOUT THE ALBUM
Heist T (EP)— Tape Lab
Released April 2, 2019
HEIST T is Tape Lab in getaway mode: part escape plan, part tape experiment, part underground groove machine held together with questionable intent and decent instincts.
The release moves like something trying to slip out the side door before anyone asks too many questions. It has that classic Tape Lab mix of odd concepts, crooked rhythm, and a little bit of dirt in the gears — not clean, not over-explained, and thankfully not dressed up like it is applying for grant money.
The lead single is “Roboy Knows,” a track that carries the project’s strange little pulse right up front. It is catchy, off-center, and built with enough momentum to feel like it knows where it is going, even if nobody else does.
“Paper Inside the Plane” is a tribute to flat earth thinking — or at least the kind of beautifully stupid conspiracy poetry that keeps the internet greasy. Featuring lyrics by CD+, it leans into the absurdity without sanding it down. The bit is the bit. Respect the bit.
Then there is “Frailure,” a gritty, grungy Tape Lab exploration that drags the release into rougher territory. It is heavier, messier, and more textured — the kind of track that sounds like it was pulled from under a couch in a practice space and somehow still worked.
HEIST T is strange, evasive, grungy, and built for people who like their Tape Lab releases with a plan, a getaway vehicle, and no real promise that either one works.
