Sub_Topical

Sub_Topical is a 4-track EP from Tape Lab, led by CD+ and built around the kind of keyboard work that refuses to sit still. The keys are going crazy, the beats are funky, and the whole thing moves with a loose, playful energy that feels very Tape Lab: fun first, polish only where it helps.

The title Sub_Topical points to what is beneath the surface — the buried texture, the low-end movement, the weird little details you only catch after the groove already has you. It is also about sonic depth, the kind that feels especially right when captured on cassette tape. Warm, warped, slightly unstable. You know, the good stuff.

Originally shaped through Tape Lab’s tape-first instincts, Sub_Topical was reluxed for listeners in 2024, bringing the EP back into focus without scrubbing away the charm. It still has the cassette haze, the underground bounce, and CD+ doing what CD+ does best: making the keyboard sound like it has somewhere better to be.
