ABOUT THE EP
Mushroom for Improvement (EP)— Tape Lab
Released: June 11, 2019
Runtime: 4 Songs, 8 Minutes
Recorded live with the aid of fungal friends, Mushroom for Improvement is Tape Lab in full bloom: loose, strange, rhythmic, and increasingly deep as the jam unfolds. A sister album to Deep Ringo, this release leans further into the hypnotic side of Tape Lab’s live recording process, where the best ideas are allowed to stretch, mutate, and find their own weird logic in real time. The result is an experimental electronic album with a playful pulse, built from spontaneous jams, DIY textures, and the kind of outsider music energy that has always made Tape Lab feel slightly off the map—in the best possible way.
As the mushrooms bloom, so does the sound. The tracks grow more immersive, more elastic, and more committed to the trip, balancing lo-fi electronic music, cassette culture, psychedelic jam-session instincts, and classic Tape Lab humor. Mushroom for Improvement feels like a companion piece and a counterweight to Deep Ringo: less about the beat announcing itself, more about the groove slowly taking over the room. It is a live-recorded Tape Lab album for listeners who like their experimental pop, analog weirdness, and underground electronic music with a little dirt under the fingernails and a lot of spores in the air.
