ABOUT THE EP

Metric Plankton — Tape Lab

Recorded: February 11, 2019

METRIC PLANKTON EP is a sweet, strange little party artifact from Efland, NC, recorded live during a house party and left with the kind of loose charm that only happens when the room is part of the band. Across four quick tracks, Tape Lab mixes hip hop playfulness, cowboy bop energy, underwater weirdness, and off-the-cuff melodic instincts into something warm, funny, and oddly sincere.

From the opening drift of “planktintro” to the pop-kissed searching of “(Looking for a) Nice Grl,” the EP feels handmade in the best way: casual, catchy, and alive with friends-in-the-room electricity. “Underwater Cabin” brings the miniature dream logic, while “Avant Guardian” closes things out with a wink toward the experimental edge that runs through Tape Lab’s catalog. Fun, sweet, and proudly unpolished, METRIC PLANKTON EP is less a studio statement than a snapshot of a night where hip hop, cowboy rhythms, and Efland house-party magic all ended up on tape.
