ABOUT THE EP

Dang Fatality (EP)— Tape Lab

Released August 7, 2020
Runtime: 2 Songs (4 Minutes)

Dang Fatality is a compact, 2-track entry in Tape Lab’s PlayStationary Series, built around hard-hitting phonk, Memphis bass, and tape-driven beat work. The sound pulls from the shadowy influence of Tommy Wright III, then bends into something stranger: a post-war Korean cabaret mood filtered through Casio mode, cassette grit, and Tape Lab’s signature video game-adjacent weirdness.

Short, heavy, and intentionally rough around the edges, the EP lands with deep low-end pressure, warped melodies, and a sinister playfulness that feels both archival and futuristic. It is phonk-inspired, but not boxed in by genre—more like a corrupted lounge transmission from another console, another basement, another tape deck.

As part of the PlayStationary Series, Dang Fatality continues Tape Lab’s obsession with gaming culture, analog textures, rare samples, and experimental hip-hop forms. It is a small release with a serious hit: Memphis rap energy, cassette nostalgia, Casio character, and enough bass to make the room feel unsafe.
