ABOUT THE EP

The Binky (Album)— Tape Lab

Released: January 2, 2024

The Binky shows a more acoustic side of Tape Lab, bringing lyrics, guitars, R&B rough cuts, and late-’90s summer energy into the project’s tape-driven universe. It is still weird, still homemade, and still unmistakably Tape Lab, but the sound leans more song-forward, with a warmer and more human feel.

Wrong Tape is a standout R&B ruff cut, carrying a loose, soulful quality that feels pulled from an old cassette demo and cleaned up just enough to let the feeling through. Summer’s Over is the big nostalgic moment: the hit of Summer ’98 in another timeline, with an LFO-style pop shimmer, beach-radio charm, and that slightly bittersweet feeling of trying to hold onto the last good day before the season ends.

For fans of acoustic Tape Lab songs, underground R&B demos, cassette culture, late-90s pop nostalgia, LFO-inspired summer music, guitar-based tape recordings, and experimental pop, The Binky is a softer but still strange entry in the Tape Lab catalog—part rough cut, part summer memory, part lost radio single.
