ABOUT THE EP
Train 2 When (EP)— Tape Lab
Released March 4, 2026
Train 2 When captures Tape Lab in transit—literally. Recorded on a computer during an Amtrak ride from North Carolina to New York, the album marks a more structured, DAW-enabled evolution of 2yng2smpl’s sound while keeping the project’s frantic, funny, homemade spirit intact. These are short, fast-moving beats with a little chaos in the luggage rack: goofy, melodic, restless, and oddly polished for music made somewhere between train cars.
The album opens with “H$T¥L$H”—pronounced HOSTYLISH, or Hot Style Shit—a compact 2yng2smpl beat that gets in, makes its point, and gets out before the conductor can ask questions. “JimmyJammer” keeps the momentum high with another quick burst of nervous energy, while “Tokyoto” leans into an imagined blend of Tokyo and Kyoto sounds, conceived entirely in the lunch car on the way to New York City. The closing track, “Trance Continental,” brings the ride home with a Yamaha RM1x jam record and a title pun that is exactly as committed as it needs to be.
Frantic, sweet, and fully in motion, Train 2 When is a travel document disguised as a beat tape—a compact snapshot of Tape Lab’s techno-chaotic instincts becoming sharper, stranger, and more structured.
