ART WITHOUT AUDIENCE

There is no art more pure than art made without an audience. Does not having an audience for our art make it worse? No, ya goof! It keeps it purse, unadulterated by the pesky striving for appeal and acceptance. But, don’t think we’re making avant-garde stuff, it’s not!

But that said, nobody sounds like Tape Lab - not even Tape Lab.

Day 200 of posting my art will I find my audience.” BARF! Not having an audience makes your art so much more valuable especially because I’ll never know if it is any good because I’m not part of your audience.

We’re going full speed ahead, without any indication

that where we are headed is good.

We make music but don’t really promote it so it doesn’t count. What should we do? Focus on really making something with “value” to create an audience? Absolutely not. Not because we are afraid of selling out - far from it, for the right price we would happily never make music again. What we mean is that we’re not going to make art that we think might attract an audience.

Is that why we don’t have an audience? No, we think the problem lies not with us but our audience that we don’t have. If we did have an audience it would be fucking awesome, they would by nature of liking Tape Lab, be likeable themselves. But, since we don’t have an audience, we can only surmise that the world has bad taste.

We make art out of rage and passion and

humor and compulsion, but not out of appeasement.

Well, outside of maybe this blog, which we keep up with for the purpose of SEO. Nobody is reading it though, so it still fits.

We’re optimized for search engines but not for searchers—we can’t be found if you’re not looking. And Look at yourself, googling frantically trying to find new underground art. Doesn’t that sound famils becau’s because you’re on social media and TapeLab.live. Lame.

Listen to our music, stop reading this blog. Tell your friends. Shit, we’ll even make you a member.

We’re not going to give up. If you’re reading this, great. If not

TapeLab

Welcome to #TapeLab—stay a while and listen. Founded in 2017 by lifelong friends, Tape Lab is a collective of artists and a hub for innovation, always open to collaboration. With the zeal of a self-published memoir, our sound is our own, but you can be the decider. We make music and art that sounds like it was fun to make and stands out in a sea of bland beats.

As independent artists, we are always exploring new ways to expand our audience and find new creative outlets—especially with other undiscovered artists!

#TapeLab is currently based out of two headquarters in Durham, NC, and The Hamptons, NY.
