At the intersection of success and failure, one emerges CRYUMPHANT

ABOUT THE EP

Cryumph (EP)— Tape Lab

Released: November 11, 2020
Runtime: 4 Songs, (9:52 Minutes)

Cryumph is a deeply emotional Tape Lab EP that captures the strange balance of sadness and triumph at the heart of the Tape Lab sound. A special release in the catalog, Cryumph began as a project by 2yng2smpl that was never fully repaired in the traditional sense—but what remains is more compelling because of it. The EP now exists as an experimental blend of edits, live recordings, fragmented demos, and salvaged moments, creating a raw and esoteric sound that is unmistakably Tape Lab.

Samples come from Redwall and TMBG. Sister release for Learning to Sink / Letting it Float.

With looping structures that move in threes instead of fours, the songs carry a quirky, off-kilter charm reminiscent of They Might Be Giants, filtered through Tape Lab’s underground, tape-based approach to DIY music. Cryumphant serves as the lead single, while “LFN,” reworked in 2024 with a sample from the NFL theme, adds another layer of nostalgic, accidental mythology to this heartfelt and unusual release.
