PlayStationary Three Vol. 1 - LOLegendary

ABOUT THE EP

LOLegendary (EP)— Tape Lab

Released: March 1, 2024
Runtime: 4 Songs (14 Minutes)

PlayStationary Three Vol. 3 - LOLegendary is Tape Lab’s tribute to the oft-ignored PS1 JRPG Legend of Legaia, turning menu-screen beauty, chiptune fragments, narrator samples, and long-arc archive editing into another deeply referential entry in the PlayStationary Series.

For fans of Legend of Legaia, PS1 JRPG music, chiptune samples, Soul Calibur IV narrator samples, Solstice NES, cassette culture, underground tape beats, and Tape Lab’s PlayStationary Series, LOLegendary is a smart, strange, and genuinely affectionate entry in the catalog.

The title itself keeps the joke clean: LOL = Legend of Legaia. Built around the game’s beautiful menu title music, LOLegendary channels the emotional pull of late-’90s JRPG soundtracks while keeping the production firmly in Tape Lab territory—cassette grit, strange beat logic, deep-cut nostalgia, and the sense that every sample has been waiting years to be used correctly.

Honor + Courage is the important beat here. Originally crafted by splicing the Solstice NES chiptune beat with the Soul Calibur IV Narrator, then remastered in 2025, the track carries roughly seven years between edits. That kind of delayed completion is exactly what makes the Tape Lab archive work: old ideas return sharper, weirder, and more powerful than before.

The release also branches out with Zero% Interest,” which does not feature video game music, expanding the PlayStationary concept beyond strict game sampling while still fitting the series’ broader world of nostalgia, underground tape beats, and experimental electronic production.
