ABOUT THE EP

Juxtaposer (Album)— Tape Lab

Released: March 3, 2024
Runtime: 8 Songs (32:54 Minutes)

Juxtaposer is Tape Lab’s commentary on the current state of electronic music: fast, preset-driven, instantly accessible, and easier than ever to imitate. Tape Lab is not afraid of that immediacy—new music technology has always been part of the fun—but the album also asks what happens when a sound can be recreated almost too easily. The answer, naturally, is to make it weirder, sharper, and more Tape Lab.

You already know its Joseph Campbell on the BEAT!

For fans of experimental electronic music, preset culture, underground tape beats, cassette culture, video game-inspired music, pop-ready synth tracks, and Tape Lab’s commentary on modern music technology, Juxtaposer is both critique and celebration: proof that easy tools can still make strange, memorable music when the wrong people use them correctly.

The lead theme, Juxtaposer,” is the pop-ready centerpiece: a bright, danceable, radio-friendly track built for driving around with the windows down and pretending the auxiliary cord is a public service. It has the polish of contemporary electronic music, but still carries Tape Lab’s cassette-based personality, underground humor, and slightly unstable emotional logic.

PRAYERRUNNER 2000 pushes the project into video game territory, imagined as music for an unreleased, irreverent anti-Christian game concept. It is provocative, strange, and cinematic in the way Tape Lab game music often is—less about clean nostalgia and more about turning digital mythology into something warped, rhythmic, and deeply unserious.
